We want our region to become a place athletes and organizers enjoy returning to, says Governor of the Hradec Králové Region, Petr Koleta

The Junior Ball Hockey World Championship is just around the corner. Its hosting in Hradec Králové is also a benefit for the Hradec Králové Region, as confirmed by the region’s governor, Petr Koleta. He also believes that ČPP Arena will provide a great venue for this important event and hopes it will attract many fans.

The Hradec Králové Region welcomes and supports these sporting events

What significance does hosting the Junior Ball Hockey World Championship have for the Hradec Králové Region?
Every international sporting event held in the Hradec Králové Region brings value to the whole region, not only in terms of promotion but also from an economic and tourism perspective. It’s great that in June, ball hockey teams from the Czech Republic and abroad, along with their fans, will come to our region.

How do you view the choice of Hradec Králové as the host city for this international sporting event?
Hradec Králové is ideally located and easily accessible, making it a suitable venue for such sporting events. However, the city lacks a modern multifunctional sports hall that would allow for events with several thousand fans in attendance. We hope this long-discussed issue will be resolved in the future. Hradec Králové has already hosted many prestigious sports events, offering residents a unique chance to experience international sporting atmosphere on home soil.

Does the region/city aspire to become a regular host of similarly significant sporting events?
The Hradec Králové Region welcomes and supports such events. We are ready to discuss possibilities and forms of potential support with organizers. We want our region to become a place where athletes and organizers are happy to return. Notable examples include the IRONMAN 70.3 World Series race in Hradec Králové, the Jičínská 50 race, the Krkonošský cycling marathon, the Czech Orienteering Championship, and skiing events in the Krkonoše and Orlické Mountains. These events not only promote a healthy lifestyle but also support tourism development and create a positive perception of the region.

It’s also great that part of the event is a special program for elementary and kindergarten children

What do you see as the main benefits of organizing this event in terms of youth sports development and sports infrastructure support?
World championships in various sports are excellent opportunities to promote these sports and spark greater interest among youth. I hope it encourages more children to engage in active sports. It’s also fantastic that a special program for elementary and kindergarten children is part of the event, offering not only the chance to watch matches but also to try training activities.

What would you say to fans who are planning to attend the championship, or to the players themselves?
I believe there will be great interest among fans in attending this ball hockey celebration, and ČPP Arena will offer excellent facilities for both fans and athletes. Organizers have also prepared a Fanzone next to ČPP Arena, featuring a rich program — for example, visitors can try training drills under the supervision of coaches. Another advantage is the arena’s location right in the city center, which allows fans and players to explore Hradec Králové and its landmarks. I wish everyone an unforgettable time in Hradec Králové — whether as spectators or directly on the rink.

Do you have a personal connection to ball hockey, or have you ever played this sport more closely?
Sport is one of my hobbies — I generally enjoy spending my free time actively. I’ve never played organized ball hockey, but not long ago, my friends and I used to play many matches using hockey sticks and a tennis ball.
