Four goals from Dupperreault pace Canada to 11-0 opening win

Right from the beginning of the game, as expected, the Canadians took control of the game, almost never letting their opponents get possession of the ball. Joe Rjeily allowed two goals in the first period, but also made several great saves to keep the score respectable. A few minutes into the second period, however, the situation changed, and with Canada leading 4-0, the United Nations team called a timeout and made a goaltending change. Neither move did much to stem the tide, however, and after the second 15-minute period, the score was 8-0. Shortly after the opening faceoff of the third period, Cole Dupperreault completed a hat trick, but the 22-year-old forward wasn't done scoring and finished the game with a four-goal performance. The Canadians also flawlessly killed off a couple of penalties near the end and walked away with an 11-0 victory.

Coaches´ Quotes

Gary Slavin (CAN): "It was a good game, even more so because it was our first one in the tournament, so we were still getting used to playing together. We started well, but we couldn't finish our chances the way we wanted to. We had a lot of opportunities in the first period, but we weren't productive enough despite the pressure. The opponent also played very well. Toward the end of the first period, however, we stepped up, took a lot of shots, and eventually managed to turn the game around. In the second period, we added some quick goals and gained a crucial lead. There's great chemistry in the team, we stick together, and we want to keep improving with every game. It's a great start to the tournament for us."

Gabi Missakian (UNA): "The first game is mainly about getting players from different countries to work together and helping hockey players adapt to the pace of a ball hockey match. Preparing the team for a World Championship game against one of the best teams in the world is a big challenge. But I think it was a valuable experience for everyone. Despite the result, I’m proud of the boys. After a long journey, they put in a good performance. Now we’re fully focused on the upcoming games, and I believe we’ll take a lot away from today’s match."
