USA U23 earns first win, 7-1 over GB

It took less than a minute for forward Michael Marchese to open the scoring, followed by Connor Callahan. Although the Americans continued to keep the play in their attacking zone, the fans had to wait until the second half of the opening period for another goal, when Matthew Migale and Will Gallen scored to make it 4-0. At the beginning of the second period, Roman Rennebeck increased the lead to 5-0. However, the British soon responded when Bartoloměj Novotný scored in the 23rd minute. Before the end of the middle frame, Anthony Migliozzi managed to score on the power play with a blast from the point. Migliozzi added his second of the game in the third period to make the final score 7-1.

Coaches´ Quotes

Luke Browne (GBR): “I thought our guys, considering it was our second game of the day, handled it pretty well. That’s a great U.S. team, and our guys dug in deep and really gave some excellent performances. Considering the heat and the level of intensity, I can’t complain too much about it.”

Mike Malloy (USA): “It was a good bounce-back game for us. You know, we lost to Czechia today, and we did a lot of video today. I thought our execution was great. We came out hot and kept scoring. We’ve gotta be a little more disciplined still, but we did a great job killing off those penalties.”
