GB secures 5th place in U23 with 6-4 win over United Nations

The game between the last two teams in U23 category went better for Great Britain, who defeated the United Nations 6-4 in the match for fifth place in the World Junior Championship. The British took the lead 40 seconds after the opening face-off when Bartoloměj Novotný's shot was deflected in Dylan Holicka. The United Nations then managed to equalize, but just before the end of the first period, Christian Mohr gave the British the lead back. In the second period, the UN team again tied it on the power play, but their subsequent lack of discipline led to two more goals for GB. At the beginning of the third period, Ethan Daintith scored his fifth goal with a shot from the right circle on another power play. Two minutes before the end of the match, Alexi Gravel reduced the deficit to just one goal with a shot from the point, but the British secured the win by scoring an empty-net goal. They thus finish in fifth place at the World Junior Championship.

Coaches´ Quotes

Luke Browne (GBR): "Team United Nations played very well, and it wasn’t an easy game. We made a few mistakes, but even so, we managed to see it through to a win, which I’m happy about. We’ve gained new experience again at this tournament. I’ve been with this team for four years now, and every championship teaches us something new, which is great. I’d like to thank the tournament organizers, and I’m glad we had the chance to be here."

Gabi Missakian (UNA): "As the final score suggests, it was a close game right to the end, but unfortunately, we didn’t make the most of our chances. I’m proud of our players — they came from far away, played hard, weren’t stopped by injuries, and fought until the very end. We came here with a new team, and for all the players, this was a brand-new experience. Next time, we’ll be a bit more experienced. I’m also glad that ball hockey is growing in popularity across nations, and I want to thank the organizers and volunteers — without them, this tournament wouldn’t have been possible."
