Canada U16s win second straight game, 11-1 over Hungary

The Canadians had a strong start to the game, taking the lead in the fourth minute thanks to Jatan Sandhar and Mason Rinne, who scored 38 seconds apart. Hungary failed to capitalize on their chances, so Alex Taylor scored, giving his team a three-goal lead. Canada continued to play actively in the middle frame and Brayden Blyth increased the lead to 4-0. At the very end of the period, Adrian Sgro scored, which was quickly answered by Hungary's Levente Szénási, making it 5-1 after two periods. The game was quite heated, with players from each team even being called for penalties. The situation then changed and the Canadians scored six more times. With a final score of 11-1, they secured their second win of the tournament, while the Hungarians had to accept their second loss.

Coaches´ Quotes

Krisztián Gábor Nádor (HUN): „We played a match against a strong opponent, but the final score doesn’t reflect what actually happened on the field. The game took a turn, and we have to accept the result as it is. Next time, we need to take fewer penalties. Toward the end of the match, we focused more on resting and gradually preparing for the game against the Czech Republic, which was also indicated by the goalkeeper change."

Dave Weloy (CAN): „We’re always very, very proud of our boys. They’ve come to play hockey, they work hard, they train hard, they are a family, and they show up that way every game for each other. That’s what they did today and that’s why they were successful in their win. We’re looking forward to a gold match on Sunday – that’s our end goal. Every team here is awesome, they’re good hockey teams and every matchup is a good battle."
