Canada turns 1-0 deficit into 8-1 win vs Switzerland

Swiss forward Dominik Jaussi opened the scoring in the evening match, converting a power play in the fifth minute. But what followed was a Canadian shooting spree. Nolan Harding equalized at 1–1 with a quick turnaround shot that caught the goalie off guard. He was soon followed by Logan Kaczur and Gavin Whiston, giving Canada a 3–1 lead heading into the second period. The Canadians continued to dominate in the middle frame, keeping up the pressure in the offensive zone. Harding scored his second goal of the game, followed by Adrian Sgro, who tapped in a rebound into an open net. Alex Taylor then made it 6–1 with a powerful shot from the slot that flew under the crossbar — goalkeeper Levin Hegetschweiler had no chance. That goal triggered a goalie change, bringing Lucien Weber into the game. Weber performed admirably in the final period, making several tough saves and frustrating the Canadian offence. However, Canada still managed to add two more goals and cruised to a comfortable 8–1 victory.

Coaches´ Quotes

Dave Weloy (CAN): „I’m very proud of our team, which worked hard and scored a lot of goals. I have to highlight the Swiss team, which played a fantastic game – they should be proud of themselves as well.“

Tobias Strahm (SUI): „It was a very tough but also high-quality match. The 1–8 score doesn’t reflect what the boys showed on the field at all. It was their best performance. Compared to the game against the Czech Republic, we played well in both the offensive and defensive zones, and I’m pleased with that..“
