Late goal brings bronze to Slovak U16s

The Slovak team did not waste any time in the bronze-medal game, with Róbert Krajňák striking just 20 seconds after the opening faceoff. The Slovaks continued to have the upper hand, but while the teams were playing 4-on-4, Adrian Sgro fired from the point and tied the game. Srgo struck for a second time in the second period, when he surprised Sklenárik from an almost impossible angle to give Canada the lead. But it didn't take long for the match to take another twist, as Ondík equalized on a counterattack. At the end of the second period, the Slovaks struck twice within 14 seconds, but the Canadians again managed to tie it before the siren. Krajňák's third goal of the game put Slovakia in front for good when, with five minutes remaining, he ran around the right circle and fired past Jawandhu from the slot. Slovakia then held on for the 5-4 win and claimed the bronze-medal game.

Coaches´ Quotes

Róbert Alföldy (SVK): "I have to give big thanks to the whole team, because what the guys showed on the floor today was fantastic. After yesterday's match with the Czech Republic, we had to say some things to each other because there were a few mistakes. But I think we motivated the players well, even though it wasn't really needed today, because we had a clear goal and we achieved it. In the end, I would say that we were better by that one goal, so for me it was a well-deserved win."

Dave Weloy (CAN): "The game was very even, both teams played excellent, all players on both sides showed a desire to win. In the end, it was decided by a single shot, but that's how it usually is. Congratulations to Slovakia and thank you for the tournament."
